Series: Spiritual Harvesting

"God Gives Grace And Mercy To Obedient Children"

January 30, 2022 | Pastor Charles P. Akins, Sr.

Passage: Joel 2:12-17

God realizes that you are less than perfect, you do realize that, right?

There is an old colloquialism within Ecclesia which says, “God doesn’t call the prepared, he prepares the called!” How many fine examples are there within the Word of this fact!

Body:

God looks for truth, love, devotion, and real effort in one’s life! God rewards the person who diligently seeks him for growth, as well as all other things (Heb 11:6).

Last week we discussed the desire of God to encourage his children prior to, during, and after conflict of any sort.

Today we will look at the promise God makes to give both grace and mercy to his obedient children!

Again, we must point out why we are focused on Spiritual Harvesting. God has promised His children that after they consecrate themselves, set themselves apart for God’s service, that after they repent in heart, that upon their own personal decisions to choose God above all else he would, indeed, reward them with a spiritual harvest! (See Joel 2 v28-30)

The Spiritual Harvesting God is bringing about is coming because of cultivating, treating, grooming, nurturing, watering, and protecting the soil of our hearts!

This process represents the sowing of seed prior to reaping the harvest!

Joel 2 outlays God’s promises during the sowing process, to:

  1. Comfort v21-22
  2. Protect v20
  3. Encourage v22, 27
  4. Provide for v19, 22-26
  5. Give Grace & Mercy to v18
  6. Give Joy to v23
  7. Spiritually Bless v28-30
  8. And Restore Repentant, Obedient children v25

We see in this word that God intends to bless both naturally, as well as spiritually! God plans to provide a wholistic life to his children! God is the Father of Fathers!

Old to New Testament the Spirit of God desires the same for his children:

III John 1:2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Joel 2 v13 says:

13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

Joel 2 v18 says:

18 Then will the Lord be jealous for his land, and pity his people.

The Lord God, contrary to the thoughts and beliefs of some, doesn’t want his people to be seen as, nor considered to be, less than others!

He will be conscious of your struggles, especially because you are named as His Children! His children cannot be seen as a mockery, for your child is an extension of yourself! God knows this!

Errant thinking, and lack of knowledge of God teaches us that we are to be destitute!

How can we be of help to the rest of the world if we require help from the world!

Therefore, as his child, God will have pity upon us when we repent! He will even lessen the effects of failure if we are truly godly sorry for any faltering.

In fact, Psalms 37:24-26 says,

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.

25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

God wants to use his “Seed” as an example of his Grace and Mercy, as well as His blessings.

Note: Every Segment of the Series

As Yahweh pours out his Spirit among us, we become equipped w/ greater Faith which brings:

  • Trust in God
  • Change of Focus
  • Change of Heart
  • Change of Mind
  • Greater Peace through Trust
  • Greater Joy through Peace
  • Greater Contentment through Joy
  • Greater fulfillment through relationship

We must “Get Into/Stay In Position”, so God is free to do His Will in our lives!

How do we do this?

  1. Self-introspection
    1. Be willing to look at ourselves truthfully
  2. Self-Character Analysis
    1. Am I truly obedient to God?
      1. Am I willingly or reluctantly obedient? (Cain)
    2. Do I seek to know God’s Will, or do mine?
    3. Am I willing to surrender all?
      1. Am I holding something back that I haven’t let go of?

Matt 6 warns us not to take thought for the things of our lives because God is taking care of them, but we must simply take thought for the things of God! Let God do the rest!

As you seek to prepare yourself for this Spiritual Harvesting of God know this: God will complete all of the work within you as you avail yourself to him.

Like Moses, we all have short comings, but like David if we place our focus and trust in God, the outcome will be something marvelous!!!!

Psalms 118:21-23

21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.

22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

23 This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.
