Surrender Part 3 "Are You Able To Surrender?"
February 16, 2025 | Pastor Charles P. Akins, Sr.
Passage: Joshua 24:14-20
Intro:
When we begin to consider alternative choices, we must consider the possibility of opposition. There are often more obstacles to change so to remain the same, so we must have the power to resist!
Prop:
We rely upon the Lord for the power to change. Holiness is not within us, only Yah can help us to overcome this world!
Body:
Last week the question was “Are You Prepared To Surrender?”
This week we are asking “Are you capable of surrendering?”
Capable: having power and ability; efficient; competent:
Until you have made up in your mind that surrender is most important, you will not resolve your members to submit to Yah.
So, you may be prepared, you know what to expect, what is required.
Do you possess the power and ability to make the righteous decisions?
If sin rules in one’s heart and mind then surrender isn’t possible.
Whatever rules one’s heart will also rule one’s actions!
**Important to define and then illustrate the process of “Surrender”.
So, what is the actual process of surrender:
- Mentally I admit that either I have been defeated, or there is a better way.
- I take inventory of my old life and see the destruction I endured.
- Inside I must surrender my desire to continue to fight.
- Surrender begins with a broken Spirit, or will to fight back.
- I then pledge my loyalty to the power of the New Regime.
- I then acknowledge the authority of my new Lord/Yah.
- I realize the righteousness and power of God.
- I recognize all that God has done for me.
- I should demonstrate the appropriate respect for the one in charge.
- I make the physical preparations and gestures to illustrate my surrender.
- Hands up, bowed head, bended knees
- I allow the party control over my physical being without fight.
- I stop going places that will obstruct my spiritual growth.
- I no longer share ties with unholy obstacles.
- I accept the ideology of the Lord I am subjugated to.
- I resign myself to forget my ways and focus on the ways of my Lord.
- I reject all other options and bend to the will of my Lord.
- I show my surrender by being obedient to the will of my Lord.
- I proclaim the sovereignty of my Lord through my actions.
Being capable/able to surrender means having the power to do so within you:
- Have you overcome what prevented you from surrendering to Yahuwah?
- Do you have the ability to overcome past obstacles?
- Are you able to withstand the enticements to refuse change?
- Can you walk away from past desires and selfish wants?
- Can you resist human/demonic temptations?
“Change from without must be preceded by change from within!”
Humans must first have a change of heart before they have a change of mind, and or in behavior!
Conclusion:
Surrender is possible when we have a made-up mind that will not be changed.
When we resign our will over to the Holy Spirit, we are capable of great things, even surrender!
