Surrender Part 1 "Do You Want To Surrender?"

February 02, 2025 | Pastor Charles P. Akins, Sr.

Passage: Psalms 51:1-11

Intro:

We live in a time when this world is more selfish than ever before. People don’t even recognize their own sin, hatred, and selfishness as destructive. Thus, the phrase “Cognitive Dissonance”. The ability to separate the truth of one’s guilt from their perception of the self.

Prop:

The best thing you can do is choose to surrender to the one being consistently working to improve your total life. Surrender to Yah to improve your life.

Body:

Surrender is the major theme and goal in Salvation.

There are several questions to consider when one ponders surrender:

  1. Do you want to surrender?
  2. Are you prepared to surrender?
  3. Are you able to surrender?
  4. Are you willing to surrender?
  5. Are you ready to surrender?

True worship comes when a person has given their entire life, in trust, to the Lord Yahuwah.

True surrender then is about a personal and intentional decision to submit.

The issue then is that I must “Want” or “Desire” to surrender, and not feel as if I were coaxed into it. Internal realization of need for change will inspire surrender.

When I desire to surrender, I have a vested interest in my ability to full submit!

In the spiritual aspect, this would lead me to seek Yah’s Face with diligence.

Reasons that I would choose to surrender:

  • I have exhausted all options and failed/hit rock bottom
  • I realize that my way doesn’t work
  • I have simply had no idea what I was doing
  • I don’t have a real plan
  • My heart/mind is now opened to receive what I realize is missing
  • I desperately need to see change in my life

Wanting to surrender means desiring to give someone complete control:

  • Do you want to throw your hands up and Give Yahuwah control of things?

“Change from without must be preceded by change from within!”

Humans must first have a change of heart before they have a change of mind, and or in behavior!

Surrender: to yield (something) to the possession or power of another; deliver up possession of on demand or under duress:

Illustration:

  • I have the ability to make certain decisions, but I concede to the opinion of another to decide the circumstances for me.
  • In order to surrender you must forgo your right to act, react, or even speak
  • Surrender means prayer instead of panic
    • I may ask what is going on
    • I may ask is this your will
    • I may even ask for the strength to continue
    • I may even ask for help understanding your Will
    • I don’t need, or get to ask why this is your will
      • Surrender means you are sovereign so I gave up that right

If I have or truly desire to surrender then my prayers are always for:

  • Wisdom
  • Strength
  • Humility
  • Peace
  • Increased Faith
  • Joy

Conclusion:

We must want to change internally before we can expect outward change.

Surrender is the first step to a change in direction!
