Series: Pride of Life

"Exposing Our Pride"

December 12, 2021 | Pastor Charles P. Akins, Sr.

Passage: Galatians 5:16-20

Today’s message is a cerebral one, a heart check if you will. It is a call, nay a need for honesty within oneself, if you indeed wish to see God in peace.

So first I must ask the questions:

Do you wish to make it to Heaven, to see God in peace? Is living a life that is pleasing to God a priority, or merely a discussion?

Are you pretending to live Holy, knowing that within you recuse the demands the Word of God places upon one’s life and focus to be sanctified?

Which is of greater value to you, the here and now, or where you shall spend eternity?

Last week we discussed how our pride can be devastating to ourself, and or to others.

Pride: a high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.

Categories of Pride

  • Pride of intellect
  • Pride of wealth
  • Pride of reverence
  • Pride of power
  • Pride of resourcefulness (influence)
  • Pride of attractiveness
  • Pride of knowledge
  • Pride of perfection/without error

Galatians 5 illustrates the “Works of the Flesh”, which all characterize elements of pride. Selfishness is, indeed, rooted within pride! It is pride that causes one to feel more important than others, thusly motivating selfishness. In turn, that selfishness breeds all the attributes named in the “Works of the Flesh”!

Personal Attributes fueled by our pride:

  1. Arrogance: making claims or pretensions to superior importance or rights; overbearingly assuming; insolently proud:
  2. Selfishness
  3. Sexual Immorality
  4. Toxicity
  5. Covetousness
  6. False Religion
  7. Schizophrenia
  8. Ultra-competitive nature
  9. Insatiability
  • Wrath/Brutal Temperament
  • Void of Love
  • Divorce
  • Broken Homes/Marriages
  • Trivial Pursuits
  • Anti-social, or Misanthropic
  • Addictions
  • Broken Communities
