"Walking In Freedom"
January 14, 2024 | Pastor Charles P. Akins, Sr.
Passage: Jeremiah 6:16
Introduction:
We have a golden opportunity to leave everything behind that has hindered us until 2023. We have a chance to fully experience what it means to be in Christ.
Proposition:
Yet, if we are to walk in freedom, change is necessary. Christ must become our Lord and Savior.
Body:
Last week we learned that God desires to deliver us from bondage in 2024!
We have been admonished, challenged to “Walk In Freedom!”
Walk in the Bible means: to live a certain way, a manner of living.
Freedom: liberty to not do, to omit things having no relationship to salvation
II Cor 3:5-6, 17 says:
5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the New Testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Walking according to one’s flesh is slavery to sin.
It is the intention of sin to enslave and addict, to force a behavior and lifestyle.
- Name one sin that doesn’t at its base, seek to control your life.
- Anything forcing its way into your life cannot be good.
- If it is good its characteristics sells its value
- If it is bad a sales strategy is necessary to create a positive image.
- Bullying, and or lying is the nature of all who try to enslave others.
To become free, one must first be placed in bondage.
A place of bondage also represents a transition.
- At some point the person was free and then entered captivity.
The Israelites moved to Egypt during the Hyksos (Pastoral Group) reign:
- First transition - They became a wealthy Pastoral family, due to the plot of land they farmed and raised cattle in.
- Second transition - They went from being a family to becoming a nation to be feared as they continued to grow, and God blessed them.
The Native Egyptians conquered the Pastoral Conquerors (The Hyksos) and regained their land. (Transition)
- Israelites blessings were associated the Hyksos (enemies of Egypt).
- Third transition - The Israelites were deemed enemies as well.
While transition can be positive, that doesn’t mean it will be painless or easy.
If we choose to “Walk In Freedom” then we accept the trials of transition that shall accompany gaining our freedom.
- Transition oftentimes requires separation from things and others.
- Discontinuing certain behaviors and activities.
- Transition requires isolation as we learn or grow.
- Transition requires study and a change of perspective.
- Our perspective may be broadened to include new information.
- Our perspective may be changed entirely to support success.
Walking in the flesh produces a heart of stone (Hard/prideful heart).
- Walking in the spirit produces a heart of flesh and blood (Soft/humble heart).
So, how do I walk in Freedom:
- Discover what has taken you captive.
- Self-evaluation, or soul searching.
- Analysis of one’s life and relationships
- Decide that you will not live in captivity any longer.
- Adopt a mentality that supports freedom (Walk a Godly path).
- Study the Word of God for truth and righteousness.
- “He who the son has made free is free indeed.”
- Live according to Godly Command.
- Seek the indwelling of the Holy Spirit
- You will require God’s Strength and wisdom to succeed.
- Detach from every aspect of your captive life.
- Seek out people who are free, and actively seek to remain free.
- Godly people.
- People who employ Godly Principles.
- People who hold specific standards of conduct and lifestyle
Conclusion:
If you want to be free you must take strides against the world and the things of it.
By consecrating, or setting yourself apart for God’s service, you can become free.
Choose ye this day who you will serve!
