The Three Stages Of Sin

Passage: James 1:13-15
The enemies of God want us to be unaware of their presence! Stealth is the best weapon! You can’t fight what you cannot see, or don’t realize is there!
What’s happening every time we sin?
There are three stages to sinning:
• The Seduction
• The Disassociation
• The Commitment
1. The Seduction
The Seduction is the first, and simplest stage of sin. In this stage a demonic entity studies our past patterns and presents an associated image or thought of some past wicked behavior within our minds by speaking it to us. This stage is the introduction of a wicked image or thought based upon something or someone in our past. (Truth is paramount it helps us pray for deliverance of all sin)
• Most people unaware of demonic activity (which occurs daily!)
Can’t decipher between demons and themselves speaking
Demons constantly introduce thoughts into our minds
• Most believe these thoughts originate within them
o We cannot see these entities
o If we cannot see them then it must be “Me”
We are too ashamed share with others
• Satan uses that Pride/shame to imprison us
• The sin originates from within after we say yes, the first time
o Demons introduce sin early; we say yes or no!
o Ex. I never smoked, or did drugs but they were offered
2. The Disassociation
The Disassociation is the next stage, wherein we separate/isolate the wicked thought or deed from our conscience to allow ourselves to fully imagine our response to the pleasure. This is the point where we quench the Holy Spirit by ignoring His warnings.
• Our flesh wishes to fully embrace the image
o At this point we begin to fantasize the wicked image
• All sin has the element of “Never Enough”
o The thought or fantasy is no longer sufficient
We must experience what we imagined
3. The Commitment
The Full Commitment is the stage where we completely dismiss the idea of right and wrong, and we decide to fully pursue the wicked deed regardless of the possible negative consequences it may bring us. In this stage we grieve the Holy Spirit by shutting him out of the decision-making process, and by engaging in sin with him present to witness. We choose to quiet His voice and engage in the act of sinning against God!
4. Seduction: A demonic entity presents a proposition to sin
a. Demons present issues that we struggle with
i. What sinful experiences have I engaged in my past?
ii. What sin has power over, or lurks within me?
1. Do I have sexual immorality issues?
2. Am I a liar?
3. Do I lack self-esteem?
a. Seek the approval of others
5. Dissociative: We engage in the entertainment of a wicked thought
i. We think of what drives the action we will take
1. Some sexual elements
a. A person
i. Their build
ii. Their look
iii. The way the dress
iv. The way they smell
2. Some emotional elements
a. Abuse by others
b. Betrayal by others
c. Mistreatment by others
3. Some physical elements
a. What we will gain
b. What we can experience
ii. We imagine ourselves taking part in the action
1. We visualize the process
a. What will it be like to act?
i. To have a sexual experience with them
ii. To get even with a perpetrator
iii. To see someone fall
b. How will we feel, or make someone feel?
c. How much will we enjoy acting?
6. Commitment: We weigh the proposition (after fantasizing)
i. How much pleasure will it bring us?
ii. How much pain will it bring or cause?
1. Does the pleasure exceed the pain?
a. Will I enjoy the pleasure enough to overlook the consequences of sin?
b. We decide upon the proposition
i. Yes or no to act!
c. We are then exposed to the negative consequences
i. Loss of spouse (some relationship)
ii. Loss of a support network
iii. Loss of a job
Romans 6:23 tells us:
" For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
The recompence, the payment thereof, the result of sin is indeed death! However, the reward, the blessing of obedience to, the payment for receiving the Holy Spirit is preservation of one’s life!
No matter what lies Satan, and his minions presents, the result will be your death, sorrow, loss, and punishment as your reward for sinning.
How many of us can recall issues we yet struggle with that have devastated our lives? What sin has ruined a relationship, a job, or situation?
We always end up going too far in the sin. We always end up staying too long in the sin. We always end up losing our will and becoming a slave to the sin!
In the end we are left with the memory of all that was lost, how foolish we look, and the regret of not having control!
Now that we know a way the enemy attacks us, let us change the way we do battle. Let’s become proactive warriors, rather than reactive ones!
We can be the Prevengers and not the Avengers!!!! Let’s prevent Satan from controlling our thoughts.
Conclusion:
Be aware that he enemy lurks where he cannot be seen.
Don’t allow yourself to start something that you don’t want to finish!
We’re more prepared for battle when we are aware that we are in a battle, and less prepared when the war is from within, and unknown.
Invite God into all your thoughts so that purity is the origin of your focus. With God as your guide, evil cannot overtake you!
Luke 21:36
"Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man."
