"How You Do Things Matters!"
April 27, 2025 | Pastor Charles P. Akins, Sr.
Passage: Genesis
Intro:
What does your attitude say about your love for the Father in Heaven? Our disposition can reveal a lot about our salvation.
Prop:
Daily re-evaluation of self can provide the incentive to seek Yah’s Face diligently.
Body:
Not only did Cain fail God in his selfish display and poor attitude, but he then killed his brother for finding favor with a great attitude.
People often become angry with others for doing what they couldn’t, or wouldn’t do!
The spirit with which we act, react, or even serve, reflects our heart and desire to do whatever is being done.
• How you do it matters more than what you do
• Cain and Abel differed in the "How"
• Cain did it grudgingly, wrong Spirit, selfish
• Abel was glad to do, selfless
• How can negate the effort
• If you don't want to do it, then it has no value when done
• Unwillingness shows in effort and attitude
• People will reject unwilling effort
You must ask yourself: For what reason am I doing this task?
- Are you doing it out of love?
- Are you doing it because you feel some sense of obligation?
- Are you doing it to receive some sort of recognition or notice?
- Are you doing it to deceive someone into believing you are someone you are not?
Yahuwah desires an obedience that comes out of love for and devotion to Him.
Have you ever asked yourself or contemplated:
- What does Real Love look like?
- Am I capable of real love?
- Have I ever truly loved anyone before?
- How do I know if I have or haven’t?
Why am I getting into all of this?
Because you must know if you are truly serving God, or going through the motions.
I would hate to think that you might be wasting your time.
God expects a real commitment. He won’t settle for less.
If you find it difficult to answer those questions you have some work to do.
In order to serve God, we must first know what Real Love is.
God expects us to serve Him out of our love for Him, just as he provided Salvation out of His Love for us!
Yah believes in reciprocity, or “Quid Pro Quo”!
You see, if only one person is in love, then that love is one sided.
Their love might be real, but it isn’t true love because both don’t share the devotion.
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
It matters how things are done because how I do them reflects upon how I feel about the person I am doing them for.
Our love will show in our prayer, study, service, worship, praise, and trust in Yah!
Investigate what is in our hearts:
- Can/do I fully appreciate God/the people in my life?
- If you don’t appreciate people, you will not appreciate Yah.
- The Cross – horizontal relations are only as good as the vertical one
- Do I spend time regularly considering how important God/Loved Ones are?
- Consistent consideration keeps their value in the forefront.
- Do I contemplate my life without God/Loved Ones
- This can highlight those we sometimes take for granted.
- Am I humble enough to willingly seek Yah for changes within me?
- Biblical Foundation: God expects reciprocity, wholehearted service and love.
- Lesson Aim: We must consider the implications of how we serve God.
- Life Application: Gratitude for God’s many blessings promote love for Him.
Two goals:
- Make sure that we consider all that God has done, and continues to do in our lives. (Change of mind)
- Let us show our gratitude and appreciation by spending more time with God our Father. (Change in actions)
Conclusion:
The Bible says none but the righteous shall see Heaven.
